Regardless the difficult general conditions, German companies can strengthen the production locations in their own country. This was the conclusion during the visit of the Managing Director of the German Chemical Industry Association (VCI), Mr Gregor Disson and his successor Ms Sula Lockl, to the company Weiss Chemie + Technik in Haiger. The chemical company is currently expanding its site and investing into modern manufacturing and automation technologies to maintain its competitive edge and expand its market share.
The occasion for the visit of VCI Managing Director Disson and his successor Lockl in Haiger was to establish contact and a working relationship with the new CEO of Weiss, Mr Christian Doelle, who took over the management of the Weiss Group at the beginning of this year.
The opportunity was taken to exchange views on important topics: New regulatory requirements for the industry in general and Weiss products in particular make it necessary to adjust the production in Haiger preparing it for the future. The participants agreed that the economic situation is currently difficult and challenging and offers only a bleak outlook.
To secure Germany as a production location, it is necessary to actively improve the framework conditions. To achieve this goal, Weiss plans to network more closely with the VCI. Weiss would like to position itself better in the VCI and make more intensive use of the association's offers.
During a tour, the VCI management viewed the effective photovoltaic system with which Weiss has decisively improved its own eco-balance. In addition, Mr Gregor Disson and Ms Sula Lockl were informed about the production of adhesives and sandwich elements.
Since its foundation in 1815, Weiss has developed from a small manufacturer to an internationally successful producer of modern adhesive systems and sandwich elements. As it expands, the company is committed to constantly improving the sustainability of its production methods.
Weiss has been working on making production as efficient as possible through automated solutions for a long time. In 2014, for example, a fully automated restacking portal for sandwich elements was put into operation. In the following year, various production areas were equipped with robot technology. In 2017, several bio-based adhesives were also successfully certified.
